Send students in school home – PTA to Gov’t

The National Council of Parents Teachers Associations (NCPTAs) has appealed to government, to close down schools and send all students home immediately.

This, the Association says, will prevent the further spread of COVID-19 among students and staff in Senior High and Junior High Schools.

National President of the association, Alexander Yaw Danso, disclosed that the decision was taken at a recent National Executive Consultative meeting.

The council of the association outlined seven lapses they have closely monitored and for which reason JHS 3, SHS 3 and SHS 2 Gold Track students should be sent home.

The council, in a statement released Monday July 13, 2020, observed that “not all schools have received the Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) as promised by government.”

According to the council, Day students continue to commute from home to school making them more susceptible to getting infected, thereby,
increasing the probability of infecting others within the school community. This, they believe, is contrary to government’s initial position to make all Day students ‘boarders’.

The NCPTAs expressed dissatisfaction that not enough health personnel are stationed in many of the schools for routine surveillance.

They also feared that the voter’s registration exercise in Senior High Schools has the
tendency to compromise the safety of their children.

As part of discussions at
National Executive Consultative meeting, the NCPTAs argued that students are psychologically unstable and therefore, not of sound mind to write the WASSCE and BECE examinations successfully.

“We therefore, suggest that these examinations be postponed
till the situation is brought under control”, they stated.

They further recommended that parents should isolate and test their children for the 14-day period, before integrating them into the larger family.

Ghana will be worse off if Mahama ever becomes president again – Prof Adei

Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) says former president John Dramani Mahama is not fit to run the country again.

Professor Stephen Adei stated that Mahama lacks the full leadership characteristics to run the nation.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Monday, he explained that it won’t be in the nation’s interest if the NDC flagbearer is given the nod to man the affairs of the country.

He said he stands by his statement made on the October 2016 to that effect.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-2500680891621702&output=html&h=250&slotname=7074810865&adk=2626372942&adf=1112791028&w=300&fwrn=7&lmt=1594672040&psa=1&guci=2.2.0.0.2.2.0.0&format=300×250&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.myjoyonline.com%2Fnews%2Fpolitics%2Fghana-will-be-worse-off-if-mahama-ever-becomes-president-again-prof-adei%2F&flash=0&wgl=1&adsid=NT&dt=1594672035750&bpp=67&bdt=6609&idt=4735&shv=r20200709&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D1d6ec134f2039f95%3AT%3D1594626590%3AS%3DALNI_MbrRqfoQ5FD8zUojnij1b14udmAbQ&correlator=4770850422643&frm=20&pv=2&ga_vid=1441749462.1594626587&ga_sid=1594672040&ga_hid=2130798257&ga_fc=0&iag=0&icsg=279321052774387&dssz=64&mdo=0&mso=0&u_tz=0&u_his=1&u_java=0&u_h=750&u_w=360&u_ah=750&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=30&ady=1739&biw=360&bih=622&scr_x=0&scr_y=223&eid=21065724%2C21066714&oid=3&pvsid=2325631037221883&pem=248&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fm.facebook.com%2F&rx=0&eae=0&fc=896&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C622%2C360%2C622&vis=1&rsz=M%7C%7CoeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=8208&bc=31&ifi=1&uci=a!1&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=qULIxQoJJb&p=https%3A//www.myjoyonline.com&dtd=4845

According to him, electing Mr Mahama for another term will spell doom for the country.

“John Dramani Mahama today, as he was then does not have the full complement of leadership competencies be it on vision,  strategic thinking, selecting and leading a team, curbing the menace of corruption or prosecuting a credible development agenda,

“In our democracy, we will have to believe with people’s choice but Ghana will be the worse off is Mahama ever becomes a President again I think. The NDC did a disservice in failing him as a one-term Presidential candidate who can serve only four years”

Prof Adei further noted that there are more capable candidates in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who would perform better than Mahama.

“Ghana’s politics does not always produce the best candidate but those who monecracy and propaganda favour,” he said, Monday.

Mr Mahama recently outdoored Prof Naana Jana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 election.https:

His choice has been followed by criticism and praise so far.

Commenting on her choice, he argued that the track record of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is not enough grounds for her to hold the office of the Vice-President.

According to him, her being a former Vice-Chancellor and Education Minister is essential but isn’t enough to measure her leadership skills.

“It is not sufficient criteria for success in that high office. It is a total national development management job,” he said.

Never Campaign On Opponent’s Gender, Ethnicity – NPP Cautions Communicators

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2020 campaign team has cautioned its communicators to stay away from attacking political opponents in their campaigns.

It comes after some party members criticized former John Dramani Mahama over his selection of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 polls.

In a statement signed by the NPP’s Deputy Campaign Manager, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the party reminded communicators to refrain from making references to their opponents’ gender, ethnicity or religion while campaigning.

“The President of the Republic of Ghana and presidential candidate of the NPP and the 2020 campaign team, wish to remind its faithfuls that the party’s philosophy of positive engagement still holds valid.

“We, therefore, urge all who speak for or purport to speak for the party to refrain from attacking political opponents. We specifically ask that no reference should ever be made to opponents’ ethnicity, religion or gender.”

“We shall campaign on our record and win. Indeed, there is enough to speak about with regard to our record. We cannot beat our opponents in the politics of calumny. Let us therefore refrain,” the statement concluded.

Other party bigwigs, including the Minister of Communication, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, urged the opponents of the NDC to focus on the NDC running mate’s track record and not insults because of her gender.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful in a statement on her Facebook page welcomed the selection of Prof Opoku-Agyeman as the NDC’s Vice-Presidential candidate for the 2020 elections.

“We should take her on for her record in public life and resist the temptation of calling her names and hurling invectives at her just because she is a woman,” the post read.

The Ablekuma West MP predicted that Prof Opoku-Agyemang would have a tough time convincing women to support her bid because she was among persons who signed the ‘Montie Three’ petition.

Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s qualifications essential but not sufficient – Prof Adei

Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has argued that the track record of Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is not enough grounds for her to hold the office of the Vice-President.

According to Professor Stephen Adei, her being a former Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Educational is essential but isn’t enough to measure her leadership skills.

“It is not sufficient criteria for success in that high office. It is a total national development management job,” he said.

He added that in the absence of the President, the Vice-President will have to take up the mantle.

“We know that being number two itself does not guarantee success in the number one position unless one has other competencies. We have had two cases of Vice-Presidents later becoming Presidents in Ghana and your guess is as good as mine,” he stated.

His comments were contained in a rejoinder which he read on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Monday.

This follows reports by some media outfits that the Professor had affirmed her as a leader.

According to him, he had “never granted an interview to any journalist or media house about Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.”.

Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang became the first female first Vice-Chancellor of a public university in Ghana after she was appointed to head University of Cape Coast (UCC) in 2008.

However, the Prof Adei clarified that but for the rejoinder, he wouldn’t have said anything about the selection of the Professor as running mate for the National Democratic Congress.

Professor Stephen Adei is an educationist, writer, economist and motivational speaker.  He also serves as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority after being sworn in by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

The academic was the former head of the UN System in South Africa, UNDP Resident Representative in Namibia, Economist and Chief of the Directorate of Africa Bureau, UNDP before leaving the UN.

MINISTER FOR INNER CITY AND ZONGO DEVELOPMENT HELPS TO BUILD 252 HOUSEHOLD TOILETS FOR INNER CITY COMMUNITIES OF ACCRA

In January this year, the Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development (MICZD), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, together with the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, inspected 252 household toilets that the Ministry helped to build for communities in the inner-city areas of Accra. These inner-city communities include but are not limited to Mudor, Ayalolo, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi, Agbogbloshie, Bukom, Adabraka, Chorkor, Okpongobu, and Kokompe. This project was undertaken under the Greater Accra Metropolitan Assembly Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA-SWP) and supported by the World Bank and the Government of Ghana.

Under this project, the World Bank provided 70% of the cost of one household toilet. Residents of the households were supposed to provide the remaining 30%. However, many households were unable to find the money to complement the World Bank’s support. The MICZD stepped in to provide the 30% funding that enabled these households to have toilets in their houses. This project is meant to end open defecation, especially along the beaches of Accra. Indeed, the effort of the MICZD adds to the 27,000 household toilets that have so far been built in the communities of Accra.

Over the weekend, some faceless and mischievous people, recycled a picture of the Minister’s visit to one of the beneficiary houses in January on social media and alleged that;

The event just took place (in the era of COVID) with no social distancing and with handshakes and all.

The Minister and the Mayor went to commission a single toilet.

While many discerning Ghanaians saw through the mischief, many more fell for the deceit. We wish by this release to expose the treachery of these faceless people and to call on Ghanaians to ignore the vile and wicked propaganda meant to belittle the intelligence of the Minister and the Mayor. The MICZD is even more determined to work to alleviate the suffering of people of inner cities and it will not be deterred by mischief, treachery and propaganda.

Mahama gratefulrateful to NDC for supporting his running mate

The flagbearer of  the  National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani  Mahama, has expressed gratitude to  the national executives as well as members of the party for supporting his nomination of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for this year’s presidential election.

Mr Mahama, exactly a week ago, nominated his Minister for Educationg, who is also Ghana’s first female Vice Chancellor for a public university, as his running mate.
Addressing a meeting of his campaign team over the weekend in Accra, the former president said women have long proven themselves as equally qualified and very capable of taking on the mantle of leadership at the highest levels.

Mr Mahama said his nomination of Professor Opoku-Agyeoomang is a good example of the amplification of women who have worked hard to be where they are, and not tokenism.

He said the former university don deserves the position of running mate by dint of her hard work and track record both as Minister of Education and Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.

Touching on the current state of leadership in the country, Mr Mahama expressed concern that at a time when people need leadership the most, leadership seems to be missing in the country.

The former president said the NDC has a proven track record of providing capable leadership even in times of adversity.

He, therefore, urged members and supporters of the party to work hard for victory in the December election so that leadership can be restored to the nation.

Jane Nana leaked 2012 IEA Debate Questions to Mahama for Ministerial Appointment-Napo

The Minister for Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh known popularly as NAPO says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will talk about integrity issues with regards to the running mate of the largest opposition party before they will come and focus on her records at the Education Ministry.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) last week unanimously accepted the candidature of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the Vice Presidential candidate of the party ahead of the 2020 polls.

Her appointment makes her the first female running mate for a major political party in the country

In a yet-to-be-aired interview by the Multimedia Group monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Minister who just recovered from COVID-19said she will be subjected to the fire every politician will be subjected to during the campaign period.

He said “we will talk about integrity not only about education. I will talk about integrity because I remember that as Director of Elections 2012 someone went to plant a question which was not part of the questions during the IEA debate for John Mahama to answer so she could be given a Ministerial position, we will talk about it”.

The Minister popularly known as NAPO said the NDC has done nothing different because the country has over the years the country has had eight female running mates so they should let the ears of Ghanaians rest because they are just exploiting the female gender and not giving fair playing field.

“I also know someone who some group of men said they will rape the Chief Justice of the land, a woman who went to support them. We will look into all these before we come and look at education.”

Voter’s register: live by your Oath;Protect Ghanaians-Mahama to Akufo- Addo

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has called on the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government to ensure the safety of all Ghanaians going into the 2020 general elections.

Mr. Mahama who was on tour of registration centers across some parts of the Volta region on Saturday made the call when he addressed the President and Chiefs of the Asogli Traditional Council in Ho.

He noted that recent happenings with regards to the deployment of the military into border communities in the region threatens the freedom and safety of the people as he accuses government for acting in bad faith.

“Government must ensure the safety of all but not some Ghanaians; when the President took the oath of office, he swore an oath to do justice to all manner of persons in this country and I think that this President must live by his oath and ensure that every Ghanaian who is eligible to be a part o this process is permitted to be a part of the process.”

The NDC flagbearer and former President also expressed satisfaction about the roles being played by the National House of Chiefs under the leadership of the Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV in strengthening the democracy and the peaceful co-existence of the people of Ghana as far as political events and discourses are concerned.

“There have been various occasions when it has required the moral conscience of the nation should speak when things are going wrong and I believe that is the duty of our traditional leaders, our religious leaders, Civil Society Organizations because the country belongs to us and if we succeed, we succeed for all of us, if we fail, we fail for all of us.”

“And so therefore, when we the politicians whose leadership is entrusted into our hands to lead the country, when we are going wrong, it behoves on these bodies that I have mentioned to be able to call us and tell us ‘where you are going is wrong’ and I think that since Togbe has entered that institution, at certain times that it has been required, they have not shed their responsibility, they have stood up as the owners of the land and drawn the attention of the leaders as to what is going wrong and I believe that this is what these institutions stand for.”

Mr. Mahama who is seeking a come back as the President of the country believes these bodies; the Traditional Authorities, Civil Society Organizations and Religious bodies in the country are key institutions that can help sustain, strengthen our democracy and aid in protecting the rights and freedom of Ghanaians.
