French Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain have submitted a bid for Black Stars and Swansea captain, André Ayew according to reports.
According to French portal, Sqenf Foot, PSG are keen on bringing in Ayew for a few believed to be in the region of 5 million Euros.
André Ayew led the Swans to the Championship playoffs after some stellar performances but their bid to make it back to the Premier League failed after losing to Brentford.
However, his prolific season which saw him record 18 goals with 7 assists in 47 matches for the Swans coupled with his prior knowledge of the French league appears to have grabbed the attention of PSG.
Andre himself has remained coy on where he will be playing football next season despite having a little over a year left on his current contract.
Swansea re-signed Andre Ayew from West Ham for a club record fee of 18 million pounds.
Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central constituency Isaac Adongo has forcefully argued that former President John Dramani Mahama made significant payments to customers of DKM before leaving office in 2017.
A promise by the former President to pay customers of collapsed financial institutions within a year if elected into office has sparked a new wave of conversation on the payment of thousands of affected customers.
In a reaction to a question posed by a leading member of the New Patriotic Party Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko on why the former President could not pay customers of DKM while he was in office, Isaac Adongo stated “JM was paying DKM customers before the vindictive Akufo Addo stopped the payment to DKM customers and sued Dr Johnson Asiamah, the former Second Deputy Governor of BOG for signing the term sheet to raise over Ghc250m to pay DKM customers.”
He argued that the former President made two rounds of payments to customers of the collapsed institution before leaving office.
John Dramani Mahama at an event to outdoor his running mate said “I pledge on behalf of the NDC that we shall within one year of being in office pay all funds that have been locked up with the collapsed financial institutions. Within our first year in office, we shall pay all the beneficiaries all funds locked up in the collapsed financial institutions and its a promise. We shall not put together any long term payment plan that will further worsen the living conditions of the victims.”
Meanwhile, government says it has already made close to 90% of DKM customers across the country.
President Akufo-Addo says his government plans to introduce a system where Ghanaian students will access tertiary education on credit.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party(NPP) will establish a credit facility that students will pay after they complete school.
“After rolling out the Free Senior High School policy, the next is looking at how to make tertiary education accessible. But the country’s finances currently will not allow us to have a free university education. But we can organize a system whereby anybody who gains admission into a university can access a loan (a revolving fund) where after completion the student will pay back. We are working on it and it’s one of the things that will come out of the manifesto” President Akufo Addo said on Kumasi-based Wontumi TV.
When asked it tertiary education will be made free in the future, the President responded “I’m sure, at the end of the day we have to move that way. At least for this generation, we want the development of our human material as a matter of urgent priority. We’ll move that way but I don’t want to give a time table to it but definitely the steps we’re taking are towards that.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said, he is unaware of any form of intimidation by any group of people in any of the Electoral Commission’s voters registration exercise centres across the country.
Former President John Dramani Mahama had berated President Akufo-Addo for using executive power to foment ethnic discrimination and abuse.
“The road President Akufo-Addo is taking our beautiful country through, using the military and party thugs to stop people from exercising their right to register and vote in the upcoming December elections, is dangerous and unacceptable,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
But the President in a reaction said: “One thing that excites me most is that the registration exercise in Ashanti region and other areas has been very peaceful.”
He added: “I haven’t heard of any person being denied the opportunity to register on grounds that you are not this… every person has the right to go and register.
“What I have heard is that the exercise is going on smoothly in Asawase and Asokore-Mampong, we thank God for that. That is the most important thing to us all to leave in unity and peace.”
The President made the comment while addressing Islamic worshipers in Kumasi Central Mosque on Friday 31st July 2020 after afternoon Juma Muslim prayers as part of the Eid-ul-Adha festivities.
While addressing the congregants, the President assured the Asawase constituents that, efforts are underway to fix poor roads in the constituency in the coming days stating the Roads Minister was supposed to be with him to brief on plans for roads but he is mourning his late sister.
The President said, the year 2020 is unique because of the COVID-19 global pandemic, however, the nation is still counting on God to have mercy upon the nation expressing confidence that cases recorded in the country won’t worsen like other nations.
He commended the Islamic leaders in the mosque for leading by example by observing all the COVID-19 protocols including wearing of nose marks.
He urged the Zongo community members not to give up in the national battle against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus disease.
“I have come to beg you again for the elevation you gave me during the 2016 general elections, the time has come for you to repeat what you did for me and NPP to continue my vision for the nation,’’ he pleaded.
The president added, “I leave everything to you to be the judge of the work I have done for you and the nation if you are pleased with the work that I have done so far…then please vote for me to continue my work on December 7th, 2020 to give you more for the development of the nation” he stressed with a soft tone.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, has expressed worry at incidents of violence that have characterised the voter registration exercise in some parts of the country.
Sheikh Sharabutu says such acts dent the country’s image and its democratic credentials.
The Chief Imam was speaking at this year’s Eid celebration on Friday, July 31.
Commenting via his spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, he said, “these such acts of aggression during simple voter registration must be condemned seriously.”
“I want to use this opportunity to urge the security agencies to expedite investigations and punish the perpetrators of the crime and lawlessness if they are found.”
He noted the stabbing to death of a man at Banda following an altercation between some New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters as one of the “most disturbing incidents.”
Also of concern was the firing of weapons at registration centres.
The MP for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is facing calls for her resignation after she discharged a firearm at a voter registration centre in her constituency during a scuffle.
The ongoing compilation of a new voters register has had its fair share of violent incidences in other areas of the country since it began on June 30.
Also, a point of concern during the process as been the undue prominence at some registration centres, which the Electoral Commission has warned against.
The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), for example, has advised political parties to check the conduct of its party agents and members at the registration centres.
Many others, including the NDC’s vice presidential candidate, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang have also condemned the menace, and have asked for proper punishment for the perpetrators.
Founder and President of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr Lawrence Tetteh has linked the suffering of Ga people to the rejection of Jehovah who is their God for lesser gods.
According to him, if you trace the history of the Ga people, they do not have any fetish but the generation that came after their forefathers inculcated the worship of other gods and that has dragged their blessings.
He said while the Ga-Adangbe was in Dahomey and were introduced to lesser gods, their ancestors insisted on having a God who reigns above all.
This is background to why the Swiss special prosecutor has opened a criminal case against FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Follows complaints about alleged criminal conduct when the Swiss attorney general Michael Lauber had undisclosed meetings with him
A Swiss government panel overseeing the federal prosecution office on Friday said it had this week appointed Stefan Keller to evaluate four complaints filed by unidentified people.
The statement gave no timetable for Keller to either dismiss the complaints as unfounded or recommend further investigations.
Lauber and Infantino met twice in 2016, soon after the FIFA president was elected, and again in June 2017 while the attorney general controlled a sprawling investigation into corruption linked to the governing body of soccer and officials worldwide.
Criminal proceedings are currently open against three former FIFA officials, including Infantino predecessor Sepp Blatter and Qatari soccer and television executive Nasser al-Khelaifi. They all deny wrongdoing.
Government has procured and distributed 100 buses to a number of Senior High Schools, with a further 250 on the way, in the ongoing fulfillment of President Akufo-Addo’s commitment not only to increase access, but also to ensure that complementary resources are provided to enable the delivery of quality education to Ghanaians.
At a short but colourful ceremony on Thursday, July 30, 2020, Vice President Bawumia handed over the keys to the heads of the selected Senior High Schools, drawn from the North Eastern, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Oti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, and charged them to ensure their proper use. In the interests of fairness, schools that received buses in 2016 are not included in the distribution list this year.
This latest addition to the vehicular resources of the Ministry of Education comes after the handover, earlier in the year, of 365 out of a total of 840 Isuzu Double Cabin pickup trucks, which were distributed to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directorates of Education, as well as selected agencies under the Ministry of Education.
As well, 493 out of a total 2,000 motorbikes to aid the work of circuit supervisors and to further enhance their supervisory roles in the education sector were also handed over earlier in the year. Many more vehicles are on the way, according to officials of the Ministry of Education.
In brief remarks, Vice President Bawumia underscored President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to meeting the logistical and other needs of the education sector in order to produce well-rounded citizens.
“The President believes that the significant educational reforms that his government has rolled out since 2017 will come to naught if we do not provide the necessary logistical support for our schools to run effectively as they deliver their mandate for the Ghanaian child. Our schools have various challenges in the discharge of their administrative functions, and these vehicles, I am sure, will go a long way to help address some of these challenges.
“We are already addressing the issue of infrastructure, with massive infrastructure projects in all schools across country, with even more ongoing, in fulfilment of our pledge to make education accessible to all.”
The vehicles handed over to the schools and authorities had been fully paid for, Dr Bawumia emphasized.
“In the past, vehicles were procured by the Ministry of Education without any plan of how or when to pay for it. This often put a great deal of strain on vendors and left the Ministry wallowing in debt. I am happy to emphasize the point that these vehicles have been fully paid for. That is competence and good management. I commend the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for his stewardship at the Ministry. I also commend the Minister of Finance for his understanding and support.”
“This government,” Vice President Bawumia pledged, “will continue to invest in the education of its citizens because it is the right thing to do. We will continue to invest in our frontline managers of our educational institutions. They are central to any education reform we seek to pursue, and we must equip them with the necessary tools to enhance their work. We will not relent on this commitment.”
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, has said the continuous staying at home by students will permanently truncate their chance of getting education and put them away from school forever.
According to the minister, lots of the female students currently at home because of Covid-19 are getting pregnant because some of them, their families cannot guarantee them three square meal a day.
This, Mr Saeed said has exposed them to all kind of activities such as having to scavenge or hunt around before being able to feed in a day adding that this activity will permanently end their education when schools reopen again.
He made the comments when he met journalists in Tamale last Sunday, July 27, 2020, during the second phase of nationwide disinfection and fumigation of markets and public places.
“But if you look at our markets right from Makola, Abgbgloshie, Temale, Bimbila, Walewale to Navrongo, you will see the young ones who are selling on the various markets and these are students exposed without using face mask or practicing social distancing,” he stated.
“These students are even more at risk as they are staying at home than confining in the school environment.”
Mr Saeed therefore tasked all Ghanaians to look beyond the Covid-19 spectacle before making remarks of closing schools for this year because those in schools are even more protected than being at home.
“Many of these students are tired of staying at home because they just wake up each morning roaming aimlessly in town and are more exposed to the virus than those in school,” he said.
“Those who are calling for schools to close down should rethink again because me I am a local person even though I’m a minister, I go to the grass root, local communities and markets are flooded with these same students.”
The Electoral Commission has suspended the voter registration exercise on Friday, July 31, 2020.
A press statement issued by the EC on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 said the decision was to allow the Eid-ul-Adha celebration by the Muslim community. The exercise will resume on Saturday August 1.
“The public is hereby informed that the Commission will not undertake the Voters Registration Exercise on Friday the 31st of July, 2020.
“The Voters Registration Exercise will resume on Saturday the 1st of August to Thursday the 6th of August, 2020. The Commission apologizes for any inconvenience caused by its earlier release,” the EC added.
The decision by the EC was taken after the Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak, described the decision for the exercise to proceed on Friday as a total disrespect to Muslims in Ghana.
“On a day, Muslims are expected all over the world to be observing the feast of sacrifice that is the Eid al-Adha, the Electoral Commission has decided to go ahead with the registration of voters on such important day. One of the two most important festivals for Muslims up and down the country and globally.
“It is a show of disrespect, of disdain, and of insensitivity to Muslims not just in Ghana but Muslims globally and I think we should not be entertaining these acts of disrespect to religious freedoms. It’s a violation of people’s religious freedoms,” he added.
